relics of the past

On first glance it looks like a regular beach.
The sand starts to glisten in the sunlight from all the glass shards.
Looking closer you see actual objects buried in the sand.

A layered section of earth showing years of debris.

Even a tree holds artifacts in its roots.

Photos from an unbelievable weekend excursion to Dead Horse Bay in Brooklyn; a landfill from the 1850's through the 1930's, now a scavenger's dream. The beach is covered with thousands of artifacts: bottles, metal, pottery shards and other treasures from the early twentieth century. The surreal landscape attracts those of us searching for relics from the past and the stories they seem to hold.
